Steve
From: John Day
Sent: Tuesday, January 09, 2007 2:42 PM
To: _Department Heads
Cc: BOC
Subjet~ Resolution -English as the Official Language
Good afternoon,
The attached resolution, introduced by Commissioner Privette, will be discussed by the BOC at its regular
meeting January 22. Last night the Board asked for comments from department directors regarding how such a
policy would impact the operations of their departments. Please read item number 4 carefully - it states that all
programs, publications, documents, etc., will be in English only. The way I read it, no language other than English
will be spoken or written while conducting the county's business.
Please be brief and concise in your assessments, and include a list of any publications or documents used by
your departments that are in a language other than English. Please also indicate if you ever use the services of a
translator (staff member or contractor).
Forward this information to me by noon on Tuesday, January 16"'. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
John
John Day
County Manager
Cabarrus County
PO Box 707
Concord, NC 28026-0707
Phone: 704-920-2895
Fax: 704-920-2820
1/1 b/2007
r') ~
L.f y
