The attorney manager position would address several areas which are vital to the agency's ability to
deliver services in the identified program areas. These include:
• Developing a system for continuity of representation addressing the turnover issues and assuring
that adequate representation would be available when a position was vacant or an attorney was
absent for an extended period of time.
• Providing consistency in agency representation by setting standards and expectations for the
legal staff.
• Representing the agency in interaction with other Court officials and implementing changes
needed to meet the Court's expectations.
• Tracking all cases to assure that legal actions are completed within the mandated timeframe.
• Providing training to new attorneys, social workers and child support agents on an ongoing basis.
• Working with internal and external entities to improve the community's and agency's response in
protecting children within the County.
The attached budget amendment reflects the cost of the Attorney II position (pay grade 80) for 16 weeks
with a projected hire date of March 12, 2007 (time allowed for establishing the position with Office of State
Personnel and recruitment). Revenue increases (open ended funding) resulting from the addition of this
position and over-realized revenue from child welfare services will cover the cost of the position for the
remainder of this year. The increased efficiency and productivity for the legal department will enhance
the agency's ability to draw down funding in the upcoming fiscal year.
a ~..
l./ .. C
