(~~,n~ SITE EVALLJATION
~rw.p~rir
This expanded si[e presents two possible options for jail and law enforcement construction. Figure 5 shows a four-sorry jail ac the corner
of Church Street and Corban Avenue wi[h stafEparking located to the east. Luw enforcement is located to the west of the jail ac the
intersection of Corban Avenue and Union Street South. Depending on the final program and number of tads, this option could provide
approximately h00 beds in the initial phase of jail construction, with fu[ure expansion either to the east, onto the former Clara Harris
School site, or ro the south, on the sloping, wooded portion of the si[e to the east of Corban Court. Placing the law enforcement
component ac the major intersection of Union Svee[ and Cbrbun Avenue would provide a major civic anchor to the intersection.
Locating the jail directly across the street from the existing courthouse provides, a, noted above, the oplxxmnity to create a direct,
secure connector between jail and mugs.
Removing the jail function from its current location frees the existing jail building for demoli[ion ro make way fix fuarre courts
expansion, extending east along Corban Avenue m Church Srreee. This ttndd potentially provide the courts building with two major
public entry points ~-- the existing entry from Union Street and a new envy from Church Street. This also presents an opportunity for
the new courts building entry to address the County (UOVernment Center across Church Street, providing a much needed link between
dre namry's two major public interfaces.
Site 4
figure 5
April 20tH , 2
G -'1
WB.1
