CABARRUS-ROWAN MPO MEMORANDUM <br />TO: CABARRUS-ROWAN MPO MEMBERS <br />FROM: TOM HUNTLEY, TAC CHAIR <br />SUBJECT: RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR I-85 <br />DATE: APRIL 12, 2007 <br />The Cabarrus-Rowan Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) discussed the need for <br />improvements to the I-85 corridor through the 2 County MPO Area. I-85 is a critical link <br />in the region in terms of commerce and mobility. In addition, the Cabarrus and Rowan <br />County Legislative Delegation have introduced legislation (HB 292) to find alternative <br />sources of funding for replacement of the Yadkin River Bridge. The TAC voted to <br />support this bill at-their March 28, 2007 meeting. By consensus, TAC members also <br />directed MPO staff to circulate the attached resolution in support of accelerating <br />construction of I-85 through the entire MPO area. There are currently four different <br />Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) projects in various stages of <br />funding/planning. These staggered schedules will produce travel delays and backups <br />over the next 12 to 15 years on our only interstate. <br />This memo is to request your endorsement of the attached resolution in favor of <br />accelerating the construction of I-85.
