RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE ACCELERATION OF I-85 IN <br />ROWAN AND CABARRUS COUNTIES <br />The following resolution was offered by and seconded <br />by and upon being put to a vote was duly adopted. <br />WHEREAS, The Transportation Efficiency Act promotes regional transportation <br />planning that includes development of projects that promote safe movements of <br />people and vehicles; and <br />WHEREAS, The Cabarrus-Rowan MPO has identified I-85 as the critical <br />north/south corridor in this 2 County Area; and <br />WHEREAS, I-85 is an important link to the Charlotte/Metrolina Region to the <br />south and the Yadkin River Bridge/I-85 is an equally critical link to the rest of the <br />Piedmont; and <br />WHEREAS, I-85 is no longer functional as a 4 lane highway and has become a <br />safety risk for approximately 385,000 weekly travelers; and <br />WHEREAS, Rowan County State Legislative Delegation has introduced House <br />Bill 292 to accelerate construction of the Yadkin River Bridge replacement project <br />through alternative sources of funding. <br />Now, therefore, be it resolved that: <br />The County of Cabarrus hereby requests that the Cabarrus and Rowan <br />Legislative Delegation pursue completion of the I-85 widening project in <br />Cabarrus and Rowan Counties as soon as is feasibly possible. <br />I, Robert W.
