Fact: There should be,no disputing that the current standard is working. According to EPA, current federal regulations will significantly reduce ground level ozone-causing emissions over the next two decades. Under the current rule, emissions from power plants will be cut in half by 2015, and emissions from cars and trucks will be reduced by more than 70 percent by 2030, The Costs of a New, More Stringent, Standard Will be Enormous In 1997, EPA estimated the current ground-level ozone standard would cost the country $9.6 billion each year and more than $100 billion overall. Because the demands of a new standard would be even higher, it would cost American consumers billions more, up to $20 billion per year by 2020, according to one estimate from the EPA.
