Day
County Manager
Cabarrus County
P.O. Box 707
Concord, North Carolina 28026-0707

Dear Mr. Day:

Regarding the NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star Challenge, I wish to formally request that
Cabarrus County consider a contribution of $20,000 to help fund the many events which
are planned to maximize the positive impact of the All-Star Challenge and to ensure that
it never, ever leaves Lowe's Motor Speedway and Cabarrus County. As you know, the
study conducted by Dr. John Connaughton and his colleagues at the University of North
Carolina Charlotte showed the total economic impact of the NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star
Challenge in Cabarrus, lredell and Mecklenburg counties in 2004 was estimated at $94
million and also supported an estimated total of 1,212 jobs in these counties. Obviously,
the economic benefits of the All-Star race to Cabarrus County are huge. Moreover, if we
want to establish our region as the "Center of Motorsports" or "NASCAR Valley," our
retaining the All-Star Race in Cabarrus County is of major importance.

Because of the genuine and sincere united efforts already underway by a dedicated and
committed group of individuals, we are confident that we will garner the financial
support we need so that the All-Star Challenge will remain here in Cabarrus County and
the Charlotte region. Thank you for your consideration of this request.

Sincerely,
Clvtn~

Ann Sternal
Executive Director

1= ~ I~

3003 DalE' Earnhardt Blvd · SuitE' 200 · Kannapolis.
