<br />. The Carolina Classic Gymnastic event was held at the Cabarrus Arena and Events Center. <br />. The Concord Convention Center And Embassy Suites hired a general manager and is projected to <br />open January of 2007. <br />. The NC Youth Soccer Association held an event at Frank Liske Park generating over 600 room nights. <br />. The CVB will begin compiling economic impact figures for sporting events held in the county. <br />. Ann Sternal participated in the Snowbird Extravaganza consumer show held in Lakeland, FL. <br />. Ann Sternal, Libba Barrineau and Scott Aldrich gave a presentation, "Cabarrus County Tourism in <br />Review" to the Cabarrus County Commissioners at their regular meeting on January 23. <br />. The 2006 Cabarrus County Visitor Guide will be ready for distribution in several weeks. <br />. A reporter from the Atlanta Journal visited our area to obtain information for a feature article. <br />. The CVB staff is beginning work on the 2006-07 budget and will present this to the board at the next <br />regular meeting. <br /> <br />Other Business <br /> <br />Ann Sternal presented a request by the Cabarrus Arts Council for a grant of $100,000 for capital improvements <br />to the Historic Courthouse located in downtown Concord. After discussion, a motion was made by John Cox <br />with a second by Doug Stafford to direct Ann Sternal to negotiate with the Cabarrus Arts Council and Cabarrus <br />County with respect to The Tourism Authority offering a larger contribution and obtaining the naming rights to <br />the facility pending further research presented to the board of the entire proposal with assurance the project <br />will have a positive impact on room nights in the county. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Scott Aldrich presented a bid request in the amount of $200,000 from the 2007 USA Roller Sports Speed and <br />Figure Skating National Championships. After discussion, a motion was made by Doug Stafford with a second <br />by Dan Farrell to give the CVB the authority to submit a bid up to $50,000 assuming that the CVB has met with <br />hotels in the county to determine if the county can actually handle the room nights.
