Staff
research has been conducted via websites, discussions with other
recreation staff in other departments, and responses to our inquiry posted
on the professional recreation list serve to determine what procedures are
used in other recreation agencies in the naming of parks and facilities.
With this research and findings Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation
Commission/Staff developed a written naming policy and procedures for
the department.

The purpose of a Park/Recreation Naming Policy is to establish standard
procedures and guidelines for the official naming of public parklands and
facilities owned and/or operated by the Cabarrus County Parks and
Recreation Department.

The major objectives of a naming policy are the following items:

1. Provide name identification for individual parks, park areas, or park
facilities.
2. Provide criteria for citizens input into the process of naming parks, park
areas, or recreational facilities.
3. Insure that the naming of parks, park areas or park facilities is
controlled by the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners through
recommendations from the Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation
Commission with advice from the Cabarrus County Parks and
Recreation Department.

F-2D
