<br />Cabarrus County Policy and Procedures <br />For <br />Naming Parks and Recreation Facilities <br /> <br />I. General Policv <br /> <br />I. The Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Commission shall be responsible for the <br />process of advertising, receiving, evaluating and recommending names for public <br />parks and recreation areas and facilities to the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners. <br /> <br />2. The Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Commission recommendations shall be <br />sent to the Cabarrus County Manager for county staff review and referral to Cabarrus <br />County Board of Commissioners. <br /> <br />3. Final decisions regarding the naming ofCabarrus County parks and recreation system <br />areas and facilities shall be made by Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners. <br /> <br />4. The Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Commission will accept recommendations <br />from any Cabarrus County citizen, groups of citizens or organizations desiring to <br />recommend a name for a park, recreation area or facility in honor of a person or in <br />recognition of a historical event, ecological relationship, geographic location, <br />organization, thing, etc. Applications or petitions to honor a person or persons will be <br />considered only when the individual(s) has made exceptional contributions in the <br />following way(s): a) money; b) land; or c) other goods andlor services. <br /> <br />5. To consider naming a major new park or facility for an individual or organization <br />based on monetary contributions, the threshold shall be the donation of 50 percent or <br />more ofthe developmental costs. <br /> <br />6. Living individuals, including retired or retiring employees, may be considered for <br />recreation areas or facilities naming honors if the caliber and magnitude of their <br />service andlor contributions can be substantiated as having been exceptional. <br /> <br />7. Only under extraordinary circumstances will the Cabarrus County Parks and <br />Recreation Commission consider recommending naming anything within the Cabarrus <br />County parks and recreation system for an individual within the first twelve (12) <br />months following the individual's death. <br /> <br />8. To be considered, names for new parks, recreation areas or facilities should not <br />duplicate or be closely related to or pronounced similarly to any other names within <br />the county or municipalities' parks and recreation systems so as to minimize public <br />confusion. <br /> <br />F20 <br />
