FULL CLEANING (Saturdays and Sundays) Sterilization is an important part of our task here. We cannot have diseases spread from one animal to another. In some extreme cases the entire kennel could be at risk of disease if we did not sterilize. Please do not put animals together to save time in cleaning. Return each animal back into the same enclosure it came from. Sometimes it is necessary to have an empty kennel to house the animals temporarily as you clean each kennel. Please sterilize this "empty" kennel after each animal is temporarily housed there. The best sterilization is a bleach/water solution or Kennel Sol (when available) One part bleach to ten parts water mixed in large blue bucket. The bleach kills any harmful bacte'ria without hurting the animals. Wash the food and water bowl in the solution, then take a full bowl of cleaning solution and slosh it on the walls of the kennel. Use scrub brush dipped in solution to sterilize walls, wires, doors and blue platform. Rinse all cleaning solution, hair, waste, etc. thoroughly down the drain trough and . squeegee the floor dry. Rinse the bowls. Fill water bowls with fresh drinking water. NOTE: Some smaller dogs and puppies can get out of their enclosure through the slot the food bowl fits in if the bowl is not there or is not latched in under the tabs properly. Wipe the dog's feet, then return the dog to its sterile kennel and move to the next kennel. Repeat until all kennels are clean (start at rear and move to from kennels, one side at a time) Please allow the kennel to dry completely before returning the dog to its clean home. If it is raining or the dog gets muddy, clean their feet with a towel (towels found in cat room) When all kennels are clean, scrub down center area with cleaning solution, rinse and squeegee dry. Approximately 30 minutes before closing, briefly walk all dogs. No toys or bones of ANY kind are to be left in kennels. Use automatic watering system to fill water bowls before we close. FEEDING Feeding dry food is only required on Saturdays and Sundays. Food is found in large gray garbage type containers in the breezeway. (Separate food for adult dogs and puppies). Consult "veteran" volunteers for proper amount for each animal. About 10-15 minutes after feeding, walk dogs to "potty area". CAT CAGES The cat room is a very busy and congested area. All of the supplies are stored there in limited space. Please help us keep this area as neat, clean and organized as possible. On weeknights, a bleach/water solution (1 part bleach to 10 parts water) is mixed in the dark blue dish pan. Scoop each litter pan, rinsing scooper in between each cage. Straighten and replace papers if soiled or destroyed. Full Cleaning of Cat Room on $aturdays. Rubber gloves are available if yoU want to use. In aqua bucket, prepare cleaning solution: 1 part bleach, 10 parts water and a squirt of dishwashing detergent. G~ S
