G'~
'i~"" ~
,j: ,
~~

Cabarrus County Department of Social Services

MEMORANDUM

TO:
FROM:
DATE:
SUBJECT:

John Day, County Manager
Sandy Russell, Interim Director
10/30/06
Child Care Funding

We have received authorization for child care funding in excess of the amount projected in the
FY07 budget. State Subsidy assistance for FY07 of $4,692,966 includes funds to cover the
increase in established rates for child care effective 10/1/06. Cabarrus County Partnership for
Children received additional Smart Start Funding for FY07 and increased the agency's
allocation for child care to $913,384.

For the past several months, we have been removing children from the waiting list as a result of
the increased funding. As of 9/30/06, 100 children on the waiting list had been offered child
care services. We will continue to monitor our spending rate to assure that we are on target to
spend the authorized funds.

The budget amendment and Child Care Funding Authorization reflecting the increased funding
are attached.

'\=-\3
