I just spoke with Dean Dennis and we're going to have lunch together next
Tuesday. Will the County make a decision on a management company on Monday? Should I plan to attend
Monday's meeting?

Ann

Ann Sternal
Executive Director
ann@cabarruscvb.com
704-782-4340

From: Ann Sternal [mailto:ann@cabarruscvb.com]
Sent: Thursday, November 18, 20044:18 PM
To: 'rmfreeman@co.cabarrus.nc.us'; 'John Day'
Subject: Management companies

Robert and John,

Libba Barrineau and I have been phoning CVBs and talking to their' sales staffs and executive directors about
their relationships with SMG, Compass, and Global Spectrum. Libba has sent you the results of her conversations
concerning SMG and here are mine concerning Global Spectrum.

1. Des Moines, IA CVB - Greg Edwards, Executive Director .
Global Spectrum manages Veterans Auditorium, Wells Fargo Arena, Hy"Vee Exhibition Hall, and Polk
County Convention Complex.

Greg spoke very highly of GS. He said they are excellent and had nothing but very positive remarks about
them. He said they are"on the same page" as the CVB and GS is very conscious of their hotels' needs.
He said they interviewed several companies before choosing GS and are. really glad they selected GS.
He feels GS is more aggressive than SMG. Their booking policy for the CVB is 18 months out.

2. Overland Park, Kansas CVB - Charlie Spiegel, Director of Sales
GS manages Overland Park Convention Center and Kemper Arena.

GS took Kemper Arena and turned it around. Their GM, Brett Mitchell, came from the Salt Palace in Salt
Lake City and is an excellent manager. Charlie said the CVB was involved in the selection process when
Brett was hired. Charlie said the staffs from GS and the CVB meet regularly, sometimes on a daily basis.
They have an excellent working relationship and attend trade shows together; e.g., ASAE. Their booking
policy for the CVB is 18 months out.

3. Kansas City CVB - Rick Hughes, President and CEO ?
GS manages Hale Arena and American Royal Exposition Center.

Rick said they went through a very complex process when they hired a management company one year
ago and he "couldn't be more pleased" with their choice of GS. He said GS has done a remarkable job in
13 months and their customer service, cleanliness of buildings, etc. is outstanding. The CVB has a good
working relationship with the GS staff.

1/4/2005

s
