<br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br />~ <br />~ <br />NORTH CAROLINA <br /> <br />CABARRUSCOUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was born on January 15, 1929 in <br />Atlanta, Georgia, and devoted his life to fighting poverty, injustice and racism in <br />America; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Dr. King, through his practice of non-violent protest, promoted the <br />importance of love, peace and freedom for humankind and challenged America to honor <br />its promise of liberty and justice for all citizens; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, during his lifetime, Dr. King sought to forge the common ground <br />on which individuals of all ages, races and backgrounds could join together to address <br />important community issues and provide service to their community; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the third Monday in January has been established as a national <br />holiday to observe the anniversary of Dr. King's birth. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners hereby <br />proclaims Monday, January 17, 2005, as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Day in <br />Cabarrus County and encourages all citizens to join in the special programs and <br />ceremonies to be held on January 15 - 17 honoring the life and work of Dr. King and his <br />legacy of peace and equality for all citizens. <br /> <br />Adopted this 10th day of January 2005. <br /> <br />Carolyn B.
