<br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br />~ <br />~mm!~q~mv <br /> <br />NORTH CAROUNA <br /> <br />CABARRUSCOUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Agriculture and agribusiness industries comprise $2.7 billion or roughly 47 <br />percent of the total county income; and approximately 23 percent of the county's total <br />employment is generated by agriculture and agribusiness; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, George L. Pless Sr. and Sons Dairy Inc. is one of Cabarrus County's oldest <br />farming operations with the family farm dating back to 1760; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, George L. Pless Sr. and Sons Dairy Inc. is the 2005 recipient of the Marvin <br />E. Senger Distinguished Dairy Farmer Award, presented to a North Carolina dairy farmer who <br />excels in leadership for the dairy industry, management ability, and use of modem technologies <br />on their dairy operation; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, George L. Pless Sr. and Sons Dairy Inc. was named a Century Farm Family <br />by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, George Pless, his sons Jerry and John Pless and his grandsons David Pless <br />and Tim Sifford together manage a herd of220 milk cows and 195 calves and heifers and grow <br />silage, hay, barley, com grain and soybeans; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The Pless Dairy was one of the first dairy farms in North Carolina to use <br />futures options to minimize the financial risk of adverse price swings within the industry, and <br />they shared their methods and success model with other dairy farmers across the region. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners hereby <br />congratulates George L. Pless Sr. and Sons Dairy Inc. for this significant achievement and wishes <br />them many more years of success as an agriculture producer in Cabarrus County. <br /> <br />Adopted this 21" day of March, 2005. <br /> <br />Carolyn Carpenter, Chairman <br />Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners <br /> <br />c- '.)... <br />
