The purpose of sharing this report is to make you aware of our community health and human service
issues and to seek your involvement in addressing the issues for the benefit of our community.

. With the endorsement and support of Cabarrus Health Alliance, CommunityW orks (the planning arm
of United Way), Healthy Cabarrus, and United Way-Cabarrus, this study was carried out by the
Cabarrus Community Planning Council during 2004.

. The information and data gathered for this study represents the involvement of more than 1800
individuals.

. Each ofthe following data sources provided unique insight into community assets and needs:
o Listening to residents, service providers, and community leaders;
o Conducting a telephone survey of 600 randomly selected households; and
o Analyzing existing data and statistics from local, state, and national sources.

Summary of Findings:

Community Assets:
. Clearly, Cabarrus County health and human service organizations, education providers, healthcare
providers, private businesses, and foundations work together to address local needs.
