,

May 31, 2005

To:

Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Commission

From:

Mr. Steve L. Little, Director
Parks and Recreation Department

Subject:

Amendment to Maintenance and Repairs Agreement

In the proposed amendment to the agreement for maintenance and repairs, Cabarrus
County Board of Education agrees to perform general maintenance and repairs to
school/park facilities at Cabarrus County/City of Kannapolis school .sites. The following
are examples of facilities the school system will maintain through the proposed
maintenance and repairs agreement for school/park sites: athletic fencing, dugouts,
lighting systems, athletic turf improvements, athletic irrigation and associated
wells/holding tanks, and concession/restroom buildings.

The current maintenance and repairs agreement between Cabarrus County Board of
Commissioners, Kannapolis Board of Education and Cabarrus County Board of
Education does not address the maintenance and repairs of formal athletic facilities on
school/park sites. Under the current agreement, the school systems agreed to
maintain all facilities at all high schools (typical type of facilities - baseball, softball,
football, soccer, tennis, basketball, picnic shelters and walking/nature trails). School
systems also agreed to maintain the basis school facilities at the elementary school
sites (playgrounds, basketballcourts, walking or running tracks, and informal athletic
fields - no lights, dugouts or irrigation systems).

The following are major points of the agreement:

. All maintenance/repairs will be reimbursed from Cabarrus County to Cabarrus
County Schools for all labor (time and half rating) plus materials and other
expenses.
. All maintenance and repairs on school/park sites will be performed by work order
request from Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Department to Cabarrus
County Schools.

I=- :v
