<br />~ ,COnf;Jil COMPONENT NARRATIVE CONTINUED (attach for each component) <br />3) Describe the soecific referral, screenino, admission and termination orocedures. <br />The primary source of referrals is Law Enforcement (this includes School Resource Officers). Other referrals come <br />from Department of Juvenile Justice, school guidance counseiors and social workers, local attorney's and District <br />Court. Screening information is taken from social history prepared by the referring representative and other <br />investigative reports. The participant and parentIs) must meet with the program coordinator for an explanation and <br />acceptance of the program requirements. A statement is taken from the youth regarding facts of the incident. <br />Admission - the participant is admitted to the program when they are willing to accept full responsibility for their actions <br />by admitting guilt; also they must meet the age requirement 11-16. The youth and parent sign forms committing to <br />participation in the program. When is youth is terminated successfully they have complied with all the requirements <br />set forth by their jury. Turned in all required papers, i.e., community service form, apology letter(s}, essay(s}, <br />drug/alcohol screening; submitting to mediation; submitting proof of counseling. <br /> <br />4) Describe imo/ementation to include: <br />a} The primary and supplemental services provided, if applicabie: <br />The primary services provided are prevention and intervention. Education of youth volunteers, educating the public <br />about Teen Court helps deter youth from committing misdemeanor offenses. Intervention occurrs when a youth is <br />referred to the Teen Court program instead of Juvenile or District Court. Through Teen Court our goal is to reduce <br />further contact with the judicial system. <br /> <br />b) The means of working with youth and families: <br />The program coordinator stays in contact with the participants and his/her parent(s}/guardians from the intake to <br />turning in completed work. In the intake interview all of the program requirements are explained and necessary <br />paperwork signed by youth and patent(s}/guardian(s}. A Teen Court sentence date is scheduled. At the Teen Court <br />session the Coordinator is there to answer any questions; Community Service - the Coordinator assigns worksite and <br />community service duties. Parents are given the name of the Community Service site representative and phone <br />number. When all of the jury duty requirements are met the parents and the referring agent or agency are sent a <br />completion letter. The parent(s)/guardian(s} are sent a Parental Exit Survey and the youth is sent a Youth Exit <br />Evaluation. <br /> <br />c) The daily activities: <br />Receiving new referrals; conducting intakes of potential Teen Court participants; updating referral data base of new <br />participants; scheduling appoints for new referrals and typing letters to parents about meeting date and time; <br />monitoring existing participants to ensure compliance with program. Conferring with Juvenile Justice Intake <br />, <br />Counselor, juvenile court counselors, school resource officers; local police officers, sheriffs, attorney's and assistant <br />district attorney's. Answering questions about the Teen Court Program to interested youth and parents. Talking with <br />community service worksites about youth who are working with them and about placing new participants. Typing <br />letters to participants who have completed the program. Letters include a completion letter to parent(s}/guardiari(s), <br />attorney or juvenile justice intake counselor or court counselor, with a youth exit evaulation and parent questionnaire. <br />Where appropriate a victim apology letter and restitution. Reading apology letters and essay's. Updating compliance <br />log when youth submit apology letters, essay's and community and restitution.
