OCT 3 1 200SW

CABARRUS COUNTY DEPT. SOCIAl. SERV.

Dear Jim,

I am writing in response to Your recent letter regarding the need for additional child care
subsidy funding for the current State Fiscal Year, Thank you for providing a written summary.
regarding your current funding situation. .

I am sorry to report that we ~an not commit to provide subsidy funding in the amount you
requested. We allocated all the funding that was available to the Division in August, 2005 with
,
the exception of about $500,QOO. Those funds are currently earmarked for subsidy services for
families who relocated to NOfth Carolina due to Hurricane Katrinaand need emergency child
care.

We will conduct a reversion ~ncl reallocation process once we have the expenditure data through
the service month of October but anticipate that there will be less than $1 million to revert and
reallocate. Your agency may qualify for a reallocation in late November but that can not be
determined until all the data!for the state is available. Inany case, we do not anticipate having
the amount offunding available that you indicated you need.

I appreciate your diligence tQ locate other funding sources. If you have not already done so, I
encourage you to determine if you have T ANF funds that can be utilized for child care for the
Work First families that are ~eceiving priority for services. In addition, you may screen the need
for child care for the children in the More at Four Programs to determine if subsidy payments
are needed beyond tlie More'at Four portion of the day. Kathy Davis, the Subsidy Services
Consultant assigned to your ~ounty is available to assist your staff with additional analysis of
payment options.

Sincerely,

'"

_\~. \~~\\.I-J,)".
