<br />RESOLUTION <br /> <br />~~ <br />~ <br /> <br />NORTH CAROLINA <br /> <br />CABARRUS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Kannapolis was founded by James William Cannon in 1906 on <br />lands located in northern Cabarrus and southern Rowan Counties and the City of <br />Kannapolis was incorporated in 1984; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Mr. Cannon built great textile plants and created a community <br />around those mills for his employees and their families; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Kannapolis has grown from a mill village to a city that is home to <br />38,245 residents who have demonstrated a strong work ethic throughout the years; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, David Murdock has announced plans for the North Carolina Research <br />Campus, which will be built on the same lands as Cannon Mills and provide great <br />opportunities for the future of the City of Kannapolis, its residents and surrounding region; <br />and . <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the year 2006 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of <br />Kannapolis and a Centennial Celebration is planned with special commemorative <br />programs beginning on January 21, 2006, and continuing throughout the year; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the year-long celebration will provide an excellent opportunity for the <br />citizens of Kannapolis and all of Cabarrus County to come together to learn about and <br />recall the achievements of the City and its citizens, to celebrate its history and to envision <br />a bright future of continuing city and county cooperation, economic growth and <br />opportunities for all. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners does hereby recognize 2006 as the year of Kannapolis' Centennial, <br />Celebrating Kannapolis: People, Pride and Progress; and call upon all Cabarrus County <br />citizens to participate in the special programs and activities planned throughout 2006 in <br />celebration of this important milestone in the history of Kannapolis. <br /> <br />Adopted this 21st day of November 2005. <br /> <br />Carolyn B.
