Meeting Date 3/12/04 <br /> <br /> CABARRUS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />AGENDA ITEM REQUEST <br /> <br />Agenda Item # ,~- <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br />North Carolina Specialty Crops Program Grant funding of the Peach Production <br />Demonstration in Piedmont North Carolina. <br /> <br />BRIEF SUMMARY: <br />To appropriate funds to be received for the North Carolina Specialty Crops Program Grant <br />to purchase 32 peach trees (2 1/2 feet) which include China Pear, Intrepid, Challenger, <br />and experimental cultivars. The County's proposal entitled, Peach Production <br />Demonstration in Piedmont North Carolina, will ascertain if the newer cultivars will produce <br />in piedmont clay soils and with increased chilling hours that are less susceptible to <br />frost/freeze events. This grant is funded 100% by the Golden Leaf Foundation.
