The Center of American Motorsports <br />PROCLAMATION NORTH CAROLINA <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />Motorsports, one of the most significant segments of our economy, <br />creates and sustains thousands of local jobs in Cabarrus County; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />Cabarrus County, the Center of American Motorsports, is the home of <br />Lowe's Motor Speedway, Concord Motorsport Park, the home of <br />legendary Dale Earnhardt and many racing-related businesses; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />The Cabarrus Region is home to scores of NASCAR Drivers, Racing <br />Teams, Racing Shops and hundreds of other NASCAR related <br />industries; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />The Nextel All Star race will have an economic impact on our region in <br />excess of $100 million dollars; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />Lowe's Motor Speedway hosts the annual Coca Cola 600 in May and <br />the annual UAW-GM Quality 500 race in October; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />Business Leaders, Elected Officials, and Racing Fans all believe the <br />heart and soul of NASCAR country is here; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />The NASCAR Research and Development facility is located here and <br />motorsports research is being conducted at UNC Charlotte and at <br />Rowan-Cabarms Community College; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Hundreds of thousands of race fans annually attend motorsports events <br /> each year in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners does hereby proclaim May 2004 "Motorsports Month in Cabarrus <br />County" in recognition of the importance of the motorsports industry in our community <br />and throughout the region. <br /> <br />Adopted this 19th day of April, 2004. <br /> <br />Robert M.
