The Board of Commissioners for the County of Cabarrus met in recessed <br />session in the Multipurpose Room at the Cabarrus County Governmental Center <br />in Concord, North Carolina on Monday, February 23, 2004, at 5-00 p m. <br /> <br /> Present - Chairman. Robert M. Freeman <br /> Vice Chairman: Richard D. Suggs <br /> Commissioners. Carolyn B. Carpenter <br /> Robert W Carruth <br /> Coy C Prlvette <br /> <br /> Also present were John D. Day, County Manager; Marilyn D. Porter, <br />County Attorney; and Frankie F. Bonds, Clerk to the Board. <br /> <br /> Following dinner, Chairman Freeman called the meeting to order at 5:15 <br /> p.m. Vice Chairman Suggs was not present for the beginning of the meeting. <br /> <br /> Commissioner Carruth gave the invocation. <br /> <br />Proclamation - 1454~ Transportation Com~an~ Welcome Home Day - Februar~ 28 <br /> <br /> Members of the 1454~" Transportation Company of the North Carolina <br />National Guard have returned home after a year's deployment in Iraq. Board <br />members have been invited to participate in a Welcome Home Ceremony to be <br />held on Saturday, February 28, at the Cabarrus Arena and Events Center. <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carpenter, seconded by Commissioner <br />Prlvette with Commissioners Carpenter, Prlvette and Carruth and Chairman <br />Freeman voting for, the Board adopted the following Proclamation. <br /> <br /> CA~ARRUS COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> 1454~ TRANSPORTATION COMPA/4Y <br /> WELCOME HOME DAY <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Cabarrus County and communities across this great nation live <br />in freedom because of the contributions and sacrifices made by those who <br />serve in the Armed Forces of the United States in time of national peril; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the 1454=h Transportation Company of the North Carolina Army <br />National Guard is headquartered in Concord and received its activation orders <br />in January 2003 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the service men and women of the 1454~h were deployed overseas <br />· n February 2003 and served the past year in Iraq and Kuwait, logging more <br />than 700,000 miles in transportation missions and being called upon to make <br />great sacrifices - the harsh living conditions, the constant danger of enemy <br />attack and the long separation from their families and friends, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the soldiers of the 1454~n Transportation Company successfully <br />completed their tour of duty in Iraq and have safely returned home to their <br />families and loved ones and to the community that missed them during this <br />time of uncertainty and national awareness <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORB, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners does hereby <br />proclaim February 28, 2004, as the <br /> <br /> 1454TM TP. AI~SPORTATION COMPA/~Y <br /> WELCOME HOME DAY <br /> <br />in Cabarrus County in honor of the dedicated service men and women for their <br />distinguished service to our country, and call upon all citizens to join in <br />extending heartfelt gratitude to the soldiers and their families for their <br />courage and extraordinary sacrifices during the past year on behalf of our <br />community, our State and our Nation. <br /> <br /> This the 23=d day of February 2004. <br /> /s/ Robert M.
