<br /> Commissioner Carruth, on behalf of the Board, presented an outstanding
<br />achievement certificate to Dabble Farmer and expressed appreciation for her
<br />service to Cabarrus County.

<br />Remembrance Week in Cabarrus County

<br /> Commissioner Carruth commented on the observance of Memorial Day and
<br />the dedication of the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. on May 29,
<br />2004. ,
<br />
<br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carruth, seconded by Commissioner Privette
<br /> and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following proclamation:
<br />
<br /> Resolution No 2004-17
<br /> Proclamation
<br />
<br /> WMEREAS, from December 1941 - September 1945, the United States fought
<br /> · n a bitter World War to defend freedom and to prevent the destruction of
<br /> liberty ~n our country, and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, over 16 million men and women served honorably in the
<br /> un~formed services during this t~me in our nation's history, including
<br /> countless numbers from Cabarrus County; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, over 400,000 men and women lost their lives fighting for
<br /> freedom from the deserts of North Africa, to the beaches of Normandy, to the
<br /> islands of the South Pacific; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the surviving members of that generation have continued to
<br /> serve and lead our communities and our nation during the six decades s~nce
<br /> the end of the war, making valuable contributions in business, government,
<br /> education and community endeavors; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, those who served in our armed forces during WW II are quickly
<br /> leaving us, passing away at a rate of 10,000 per year; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, in 1993, the Congress of the United States authorized work to
<br /> begin on a National WWII Memorial, to be placed on the mall in Washington,
<br /> DC, to provide a permanent place of remembrance for generations to come; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, during the period of May 27-30, the entire nation w~ll pause
<br />to remember those brave men and women from America's "Greatest Generation",
<br />culminating with the dedication of the national WW II Memorial in Washington,
<br />DC, on May 29=h, 2004; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, on June 6, 2004, America will commemorate the 60~h anniversary
<br />of D-Day, the largest military operation in the history of warfare, which
<br />hastened the end of WWII, and brought peace and stability to Europe; and
<br />
<br /> NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Cabarrus County Board of
<br />Commissioners hereby proclaims the per[od of May 29 - June 6, 2004, as WWII
<br />Veterans Remembrance Week tn Cabarrus County, and asks that all Cabarrus
<br />County citizens set aside a special time of silent thought and prayers of
<br />thanksglving in remembrance of the heroism, dedication, and selfless service
<br />of these brave men and women, as well as all those who have fought and died
<br />for the cause of freedom in other wars of our great nation. May we remember,
<br />and pledge, that their deaths will not have been in vain; and
<br />
<br /> BE IT FD-RTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Proclamation will be sent to
<br />all mun~c[palities and veterans organizations located in Cabarrus County.

<br />19-year-old double-wide mobile home and questioned the use of replacement
<br />cost in determining that value. She objected to the values of $42,000.00 on
<br />
