North Carolinians for Jobs & Progress - Vote for Amendment One Page 2 of 2

no local bond approved by the Commission has defaulted. In
addition, limits will be placed on local governments' use of this
tool and a total of only five percent of a government's
jurisdiction can be in development districts.

North Carolinians for .lobs and Progress Steering Committee
Chair Leslie Bevacqua Coman and other supporters joined
honorary Co-chairs and former Governors Jim Hunt and Jim
Holshouser for the announcement,

"I must emphasize that this is a tool that has proven successful
for both cities and small communities in more rural areas," said
former Gov. Jim Hunt. "For cities, this is an excellent tool to
revitalize urban areas that need a boost - including affordable
housing and close-to-home job opportunities. For smaller
counties with fewer financial resources, this gives them a quick
way to respond to a business that might want to move into
those communities."

"North Carolinians don't consider changes to their Constitution
frivolously," said former Gov. Jim Holshouser. "But in this time
of economic transformation in our state, having this tool
available is imperative."

Groups that have endorsed Amendment One include North
Carolina Citizens for Business and Industry (NCCBI), North
Carolina Economic Developers Association (NCEDA),
Electricities, the North Carolina Association of County
Commissioners, North Carolina League of Municipalities, North
Carolina Metropolitan Coalition and the North Carolina Rural
Center.

For more information on Amendment One, go to
www.amendmentone.org.

back

Overview II Examples II Neighbors II Q&A II Endorsements II Newsroom II How
to Help

http://www.amendmentone.org/20040503.html

7/31/2004
