North Carolinians for Jobs & Progress - Vote for Amendment One Page 2 of 3 <br /> <br />Virginia <br /> <br />Lynnhaven Mall District - Virginia Beach. City investment <br />was $11.5 million. Existing property value was $225 million. <br />Current value is $380 million. The purpose of this project was <br />to improve an important commercial area in the city. The <br />project helped increase tax revenue; improve traffic flow in the <br />area; improve public transit access to the mall; expand public <br />parking in the mall area and create 400 new jobs for the <br />citizens of Virginia Beach. <br /> <br />MacArthur Center - Norfolk. This project was a result of a <br />$300 million public/private development partnership and has <br />served as a catalyst for entrepreneurial ventures. Since the <br />mall's opening, 60 new restaurants have opened. <br /> <br />Georgia <br /> <br />Atlantic Station District - Atlanta, Transforming Atlantic <br />Steel 138-acre Brownfields into a commercial and residential <br />development. Self-financing bonds issued will be $76,505,000 <br />million. Value of land expected to go from $7 million to $214 <br />million. More than 20,000 new jobs. <br /> <br />Atlantic Eastside District - Atlanta. Redevelop east side of <br />Atlanta's downtown, including housing and historical corridor <br />for tourism. Approved in 2003. <br /> <br />Acworth District - Acworth. $7.5 million in bonds to support <br />shopping center that will replace flea market. Approved in <br />2003. <br /> <br />Marietta District - Marietta. Up to $20 million in bonds to <br />support affordable housing, retail, office and high-end <br />condominium developments. Approved in 2003. <br /> <br />Smyrna District - Smyrna. Up to $30 million in bonds to <br />support refurbishing 1950s shopping center, high-end <br />condominiums, street level retail and office space. Approved in <br />2003. <br /> <br />Florida <br /> <br />City Center District - Miami Beach, The Loews Hotel was a <br />redevelopment and revitalization project. A new convention <br />center-quality hotel was built in 1998. It was the first new <br />facility of this type to be built in Miami Beach in 30 years. The <br />hotel has already far exceeded the profit projection. Since it <br />opened, rent revenues have been in excess of $3.3 million. The <br />hotel has generated more than 900 new jobs.
