Meeting Date REVISION CABARRUS COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS AGENDA ITEM REQUEST TO THE ACENDA 8-16-04 Agenda Item # G-9 SUBJECT: Adequate Public Facilities Standards BRIEF SUMMARY: Session Law 2004-39, House Bill 224, Section 5, (attached) provided authorization for Cabarrus County to enforce the provisions of its school adequacy requirements on a countywide basis, including within the corporate limits of the county's municipalities. The current policy for the advancement of school adequacy should be revised to reflect this legislative change. REQUESTED ACTION: (su~gest~ motion ff the Board approves the agenda item as presented) Adopt revised policy for the advancement of school adequacy and consider increasing the minimum value of the advancement requirement. It is also suggested that the minimum value of advancement be increased. At the current value, about $2 million would be raised countywide. A minimum value of $3,000 would raise about $6 million. A minimum value of $5000 would raise about $10 million annually. It is important to relieve the pressure on the property tax rate caused by the need for additional school facilities and this is one of the few methods available to do so.
