KANNAPOLIS CITY BOARD OF EDUCATION <br /> <br />RESOLUTION REQUESTING SCHOOL BOND REFERENDUM <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Kannapolis City Board of Education is charged with the education and <br />well-being of its students; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, all students should have safe and adequate facilities in which to attend <br />school; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, all projections indicate that our growth will continue for the foreseeable <br />future; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the school system has engaged in long-range facilities planning and has <br />developed a carefully crafted plan to provide for essential, adequate school facilities on a <br />reasonable schedule, for the children in the Kannapolis City Schools; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, for the safety and well-being of our students, a large portion of Shady Brook <br />Elementary School needs to be replaced; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, A.L. Brown High School requires the renovation of the auditorium and the <br />construction of a classroom building/auxiliary gym; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Kannapolis Middle School requires renovations of classrooms, lockers, and <br />the existing gym; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, classroom additions at Forest Park Elementary School and expansions at the <br />central office are required; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Board of Education has carefully examined the cost estimates for such <br />projects and concludes that TWELVE MILLION FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS <br />($12,500,000) is the best est/mate for meeting the needs of the Kannapolis City Schools; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this amount is a portion of the total bond amount of approximately NINETY <br />EIGHT MILLION DOLLARS ($98,000,000), which will benefit both the Kannapolis City <br />Schools and the Cabarrus County Schools; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, despite efforts by the County Commissioners, the scheduled and anticipated <br />funding levels of our school facilities will be inadequate to replace, renovate and maintain the <br />existing school facilities as mentioned above and that of the needs of the Caban'us County <br />Schools; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Kannapolis City Board of Education believes that the public supports <br />modem facilities for its children attending public schools; and <br /> <br /> <br />
