EASLEY <br />GOVERNOR <br /> <br />L YNDO TJpPETI <br />SECRETARY <br /> <br />FALL 2004 "LITTER SWEEP" ROADSIDE CLEANUP <br />SEPTEMBER 18 - OCTOBER 3, 2004 <br /> <br />Dear Friends for a Litter-Free North Carolina: <br /> <br />The beauty of Fall is just around the comer. You can make the season even more beautiful by <br />participating in the N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) Fall LITTER SWEEP cleanup that will <br />take place September 18 - October 3,2004. Please show your support for a clean North Carolina and a <br />clean community by organizing a local cleanup during LITTER SWEEP. <br /> <br />To emphasize the importance of clean roads and a clean environment, Governor Easley has issued a <br />proclamation naming September 18 - October 3,2004, LITTER SWEEP time in North Carolina. NCDOT <br />crews, local governments, Department of Correction inmates, Adopt-A-Highway volunteers, churches, <br />civic organizations, schools, businesses and concerned citizens across the state will be cleaning roadsides <br />with you. Working together we can reach our goal of a clean and beautiful North Carolina. <br /> <br />The following LITTER SWEEP cleanup materials are enclosed for your use: <br /> <br />1. Governor Easley's Litter Sweep Proclamation. <br />2. Litter Sweep 2004 Fall Poster and Listing ofNCDOT cleanup telephone numbers. <br />3. Certificate of Appreciation form. (Anyone may receive a certificate for participating in the cleanup.) <br />4. Most Unusual Litter Contest form. (Cash prizes will be awarded for the mostunusuallitter found.) <br />5. Safety Rules and Cleanup Tip Sheet <br />ADDITIONAL COPÅ’S OF ALL ITEMS ARE AVAILABLE FROM OUR WEB SITE OR BY CALLING 1-800-331-5864. <br /> <br />Cleanup supplies may be picked up from your local NCDOT maintenance yard. Orange safety vests, <br />orange trash bags, blue recycling bags and gloves will be available. Some counties will have pickup sticks <br />also.
