<br />,. <br /> <br />Centralina Reaional CEDS 1 CommuniJv Asse~smenLReport- <br /> <br />Methodology <br /> <br />The Community Assessment is based on both quantitative and qualitative analysis. The report investigates the region's economic <br />conditions and perceptions of the region that the consulting team gathered during its interviews, focus groups, regional tours, online <br />workforce provider survey, and meetings with the CEDS Advisory Committee. It also considers how closely those perceptions align <br />with the economic and demographic information. <br /> <br />Combined, the economic arid demographic assessment and the qualitative analysis form the foundation for the recommendations <br />offered in the second report, the Centralina Regional CEDS Action Plan. <br /> <br />The Community Assessment report is structured around six factors" critical to the region's future success: <br /> <br />Economic and Demographic Trends. Quantitative variables that describe demographic and economic trends and outlook for the <br />region. Topics explored include: population growth, ethnicity, wages, and industry trends. <br /> <br />Quality of Life: Issues that influence an existing or potential resident to live in a community or a company to expand or relocate in a <br />particular area. Topics explored include: cost of living, cultural/recreational/entertainment options, crime rate, diversity of housing, <br />and the environment. . <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />, <br />~ <br /> <br />Workforce & Education: Programs and delivery of services by organizations and institutions involved in workforce development and <br />education including K-12 education, community colleges, universities, and workforce development boards/organizations. Topics <br />explored include: educational attainment, communication and collaboration between workforce/education organizations, economic <br />development organizations and the private sector, resource allocation, and effectiveness of service delivery. <br /> <br />Economic Development Efforts: The activities of local, regional and state organizations involved in any form of economic <br />development activity. Topics explored include: external promotion and marketing, internal promotion, and resource allocation. <br /> <br />Business Climate and Entrepreneurship: Variables that impact the business success and activities of local and regional <br />organizations involved in entrepreneurship activity. Topics explored include: tax rates, regulatory climate, R&D activities, <br />entrepreneur education and promotion, small business lending, and business plan competitions. <br /> <br />Land Use, Sites and Infrastructure: Regional infrastructure, as well as site-specific infra~tructure to support business expansion <br />and development.
