<br />SuM-MoRE FUN DAY CAMP
<br />Even with double the buses, space is still limited at
<br />Sum-More Fun Day Camp. Registration was done by
<br />lottery and was full within one week. Reldtrips; arts
<br />and crofts; paddlebodts, sports, and lots'of laughs,
<br />made for a busy summer for campers and -
<br />counselors alike. Each of seven weeks averaged 60
<br />campers. '

<br />early North American Indian to life each summer at
<br />Frank Liske Park. .

<br />The Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners
<br />allocated $75,000 this fiscal year for the
<br />development of recreation facilities throughout the
<br />County. The Parks & RecreationDepartmentworked
<br />with the following community organizations to
<br />develop more places "where FUN comes
<br />naturally..."

<br />Improvements continue to be made at the 34
<br />school park locations throughout the Kannapolis &
<br />Cabarrus County School Systems. In FY 2003-2004:
<br />
<br />. Kannapolis Middle School - this new school is
<br />being built off Oakwood Avenue in Kannapolis
<br />and will have a baseball field, a softball field, a
<br />soccer/football field, concession restroom
<br />building, and a walking track. All athletic
<br />venues will be lighted. The fields will be
<br />irrigated with well water. The school will be
<br />open the fall of 2005.
<br />. Pitts School Road ElementarySchool- this new
<br />school is located an Pitts School Road and will
<br />have a baseball field, a softball field, a soccer
<br />field, a playground, a walking track, and a
<br />concession restroom building. All athletic
<br />venues will be lighted. The fields will be
<br />irrigated with well water. The school will open
<br />the fall of 2005.
<br />. Bethel Elementary School - this replacement
<br />school is being built off Bethel Church Road,
<br />Midland and will have two baseball fields, a
<br />softball field, a soccer field, a concession
<br />restroom building, a walking track, and a
<br />playground. All athletic venues will be lighted.
<br />The fields will be irrigated with well water. The
<br />school will open fall 2004. The athletic fields will
<br />open Fall 2005.

<br />
<br />Managed $150,000 in Matching Incentive Grant
<br />projects.
<br />Received a $250,000 North Carolina Parks and
<br />RecreotionTrust Fund (PARTF) Matching Grant
<br />for $500,000 in improvement to an undeveloped
<br />37 acre site on Pharr Mill Road. ,
<br />Successfully implemented a formal background
<br />criminal screening of all youth athletic volunteers
<br />and league officials. , .
<br />Constructed in partnership with the Harrisburg
<br />Youth League, a new two story multi-purpose
<br />building for the Harrisburg School Park Athletic
<br />Complex.
<br />Spearheaded an effort with local agencies to
<br />promote conservations easements in the
<br />County. -
<br />Hosted three regional and State wide Youth
<br />Soccer toumaments Spring, 2004 at the Frank
<br />Liske Park Soccer Complex resulting in several
<br />million dollars of economic impact in the
<br />County.
