Cabarru$ County Jail Facilities Study <br /> EXECUTIVE SUMMARY <br /> <br />This option suggests: <br /> <br />OPTION 1 <br /> <br />1. The development of a new six-story jail on the site of the current Sheriff's Department parking <br /> lot to accommodate up to 288 of the projected 364 inmate beds required. <br /> <br />2. Acquisition/use of property across Means Avenue to develop remainder of the inmate housing <br /> and/or Jail support space necessary to address the total projected of 364 inmate beds. <br /> <br />Renovation of the existing facilities, now occupied by the Sheriffand the Jail, for use as the <br />Sheriff's Administration and Operations Facility. These renovations would also include shared <br />Staff Support and Training areas for law enforcement and Jail personnel <br /> <br />This option suggests: <br /> <br />OPTION 2 <br /> <br />1. The development of new space for the Sheriff's Administration and Operations facility on the <br /> site of the current Sheriff's Department parking lot. <br />2. The construction #fa major Jail addition on the remaining portion of the parking lot site. <br />3. Renovation of the existing Jail to accommodate connectivity to the new addition. <br /> <br /> OPTION 3 <br />This option suggests: <br /> <br />As a means of comparison with Options 1 and 2, this Option 3 suggests the following: <br /> <br /> 1. The development, via all new construction, #fa new Jail and Sheriff's Administration and <br /> Operations facility at a remote location. <br /> <br />The reference to "remote" of course suggests a location away from the immediate downtown Concord <br />vicinity. The location suggested is the former Cabarrus County Fairgrounds, located between Union <br />Cemetery Road and Highway 601 Bypass.
