CABARRUS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was bom on January 15, 1929 in <br />Atlanta, Georgia; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Dr. Irdng was an ordained rmnister and a maln leader of the <br />civil rights movement m the United States dunng the 1950's and 1960's; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Dr. Ktng was awarded the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize for leading <br />nonviolent clml rights demonstrations; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Dr. Irdng, along with several other black mimsters, founded <br />the Southern Christian Leaderslup Conference In 1957 to expand the non-violent <br />movement against racism and discnrmnauon; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, January 20, 2003, marks the 17th observance of the birthday of <br />Dr. King as a national holiday. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert M. Freeman, Chamnan of the Cabarms <br />County Board of Comrmssloners, do hereby proclaim January 20, 2003, as Marnn <br />Luther King, Jr. Day in Cabarms County and urge all citizens to join in the <br />acttmtles planned in celebration of this event. <br /> <br />This the 14th day of January, 2003. <br /> <br />]~be~t M.
