BOX 787 <br />MOUNT PLEASANT, NORTH CAROLINA 28124 <br /> 704-436-9803 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR THE APPROVAL OF THE ONE-HALF CENT (1/2) LOCAL <br /> GOVERNMENT SALES AND USE TAX FOR CABARRUS COUNTY <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Sate of North Carolina withheld revenue due to the Town of Mt. Pleasant in <br />Fiscal Year 2001-2002 that resulted in a loss of revenue; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina adopted a budget for the Fiscal Year 2002-2003 that <br />totally eliminated reimbursement revenue due to the Town of Mt. Pleasant; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the General Assembly gave North Carolina counties the option of replacing these <br />revenues by adopting a third one-half cent (1/2) Local Government Sales and Use Tax authorized by <br />Section 34.14(a) of Session Law 2001-424 and codified as Article 44 of Chapter 105 of the General <br />Statues of North Carolina; .and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the delay in.adopting this~.amendment~has already-resulted in,lost revenueforthe , <br />Fiscal Year 2002-2003; and .... <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Town of,Mt.~Pleasant urges the_Cabarrus. County Board of Commissioners to <br />adopt the third one-half cent (1/2) Local Government Sales and Use Tax to be effective July 1, 2003 <br />to minimize the loss of revenue needed for County and municipal services and to meet growth needs. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and .Board of Commissioners of the <br />Town of Mt. Pleasant, North Carolina, supports the adoption of the third one-half cent (1/2) sales tax <br />with Cabarrus County to become effective on July 1, 2003. <br /> <br />Adopted by the Mt.
