GOOD SAMARITAN AWARDS PROGRAM <br /> <br />OBJECTIVE: <br /> <br />To provide awareness to the citizens of Cabarrus County who recognizes an emergency <br />and acts upon it for the betterment of another individual. <br /> <br />SCOPE: <br /> <br />To bring recognition to the "key player" in the chain of survival when confronted with a <br />medical emergency. <br /> <br />PROGRAM: <br /> <br />The program focuses on three key areas: <br /> <br />1. The layperson that recognizes an emergency and intervenes to prevent a sudden death <br /> or any further injury to an individual and following through with calling 911 and then <br /> initiating care. <br />2. A child less than the age of twelve who calls 911 when the child is the only source of <br /> help. <br />3. A layperson that provides basic life-support and saves someone's life. <br />These three areas are a very important part of the public's involvement in an emergency. <br />The three basic components are to: <br /> <br />1. Recognize that an emergency is occurring or has occurred. <br />2. Call. the local emergency number (911). <br />3. Initiate care until help arrives. <br /> <br />When a citizen goes "beyond the call of duty", he or she should be recognized for their <br />life saving actions. <br /> <br />IMPLEMENTATION: <br /> <br />The Cabarrus County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Public Relations Committee, <br />the EMS Supervisors, and the Director of EMS shall approve any name submitted for the <br />Good Samaritan Award by a Cabarrus County EMS employee. <br /> <br />AWARDS: <br /> <br />The Good Samaritan shall receive an award from the Cabarrus County Emergency <br />Medical Services Department and shall be recognized during a meeting of the Cabarms <br />County Board of Commissioners. <br /> <br /> <br />
