Process for Selection of A~'_ chitect <br /> <br />Thirteen firms responded t6 the request for qualifications mailed Feb. 5th and posted on <br />the county web site. ~ <br /> <br />The Board of Commissiom~rs appointed a screening committee with the following <br />membership: <br /> <br />County Commission Chairman Robert Freeman <br />County Commission Vice Chairman Richard Suggs <br />Sheriff Brad Riley <br />Resident Superior Court Ju~lge Erin Spainhour <br />Chief District Court Judge William Hamby <br />Clerk of Court Gene Morril <br />District Attorney Roxann ~aneekhoven <br />Interim County Manager JOhn Day <br />Planning Services Director lonathan Marshall <br />Senior Planner Janet Slack i <br /> <br />The screening committee his reviewed the submissions and narrowed the field to 3 firms: <br />HDR, Ware Bonsall Arshit~cts and Moseley, Wilkins & Wood, all with offices in <br />Charlotte. Each firm will rrfiake a presentation to the screening committee Monday, April <br />28th, beginning at 5:30 PM tn the multipurpose room at the Governmental Center. Board <br />members may wish to attend. <br /> <br />It is likely that the committ4e will visit completed projects designed by some or all of the <br />3 finalists. The Board may Wish to participate in these visits. <br /> <br />The committee will recornnltend 1 or 2 firms to the Board for consideration. The Board <br />will make the final decisio~on which firm is hired for the project. <br /> <br />Sul~ltested Process for Sel~ting a Site <br /> <br />After the architectural firm has determined the space requirements for each component of <br />the justice center, potential ~ites (including those already mentioned) can be identified <br />and evaluated. Evaluations~hould include costs (e.g., land, site preparation, <br />construction), functionalityoaccessibility, ability to phase construction, expansion <br />capability, and social and e~nomic impacts. <br /> <br />The findings will be presen~,d to the Board in a regular meeting. Following that, an open <br />house session will be held t~b solicit public comment on the various sites under <br />consideration. : <br /> <br />The Board will then select a site based on all the information and comments gathered. <br /> <br /> <br />
