Use as many pages as necessary Io record
recommendations. ~

1) Although the County appears t4have an impressive array of services currently, there appear to be at least two service
gaps related to statutorily mandate(~ disposaional alternatives. They are 1)Structured Day/Educauonal Day Programs and 2)
a Multipurpose Group Home with ~ secure custody component. It should be noted that the County shared a Multipurpose
Group Home with Rowan County ~ atil the budget short fall of the last fiscal year. The home was closed by DJJ&DP ~n
December of 2001. Efforts should 1 ¢ made by the JCPC and county to develop these resources in the future.

2) There appears to be a growing
truancy problems in the county. It
JCPC recommends consideration b
chronic truants by 3~d or 4th grade

~ed to develop/seek appropriate early intervention programs to address the growing
spears that there could be as many as 800 chronically truant youth in our county. The
: given to development of an elementary school program that attempts to identify future
t.d provide services to the famil}, that increases its resiliency in addressing this problem.

5/15/03
