EASdEY <br />GOVERNOR' <br /> <br /> LITTER SWEEP <br /> 2003 <br /> <br />}VERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA <br /> A PROCLAMATION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the North Car, <br />litter cleanup to ensure clea <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Fall 2003 <br />and encourage local govern <br />businesses and individual c <br /> <br />>lina Department of Transportation annually organizes a fall state roadside <br />n and beautiful roads in North Carolina; and <br /> <br />jTTER SWEEP roadside cleanup will take place September 13 -'28, 2003, <br />nent leaders, civic and professional groups, churches, schools, families, <br />tizens to participate by organizing cleanups in their communities; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Department o~ Transportation employees; Adopt-A-Highway volunteers; Department of <br /> Correction inmates and community service workers; local government officials, agencies and leaders; <br /> professional, civic and religious organizations; businesses; schools; and environmentally concerned <br /> citizens<ahnually conduct c~mmunity cleanups during LITTER SWEEP and may receive certificates of <br /> appreciation for their effort; and <br /> WHEREAS, the LITTER ~WEEP cleanup will educate and encourage the children of this great State <br /> regarding the importance o[ a clean environment to the quality of life North Carolinians enjoy; and' <br /> WHEREAS, the great natuial beauty of our State and a clean environment are sources of great pride for <br /> all North Carolinians, attra :ting tourists and aiding in recruiting new industries; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the cleanup _~ ill raise awareness of the need for cleaner roadsides, emphasize the <br /> importance of not littering, and encourage recycling of solid wastes; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the 2003 fall :leanup will celebrate the 15th anniversary of the North Carolina Adopt-A- <br /> Highway program and the housands of volunteers who contribute their time and labor year round to <br /> keep our roadsides clean; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, I, MIlCHAEL F. EASLEY, Governor of the State of North Carolina,- do hereby <br /> 13 - 2~, 2003, as "LITTER SWEEP" time in North Carolina, and urge all citizens <br /> proclaim <br /> September <br /> to participate in making ot~r/roadsides clean and reducing and recycling solid wastes. <br /> <br /> ', ,,_-.,'_ . ,:~.,:-", '::-.
