I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />i <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br /> CABARRUS COUNTY. <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br /> WHEREAS' Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was bom on January 15, 1929 in <br />Atlanta, Georgia; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Dr. King was an ordained minister and a main leader of the <br />civil rights movement in the United States during the 1950's and 1960's; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Dr. King was awarded the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize for leading <br />nonviolent civil rights demonstrations; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Dr. King, along with several other black ministers, founded <br />the Southern Christian Leadership .Conference in 1957 to expand the non.violent <br />movement against racism and discrimination; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, January 21, 2002, marks the 16th observance of the birthday of <br />Dr. King as a national holiday. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, 'I, Robert M. Freeman, Chairman of the Cabarrus <br />County Board of Commissioners, do hereby proclaim January 21, 2002, as Martin <br />Luther King, Jr. Day in Cabarrus County and urge all citizens to join in the <br />activities planned in celebration of this event. <br /> <br />This the 16th day of January, 2002. <br /> <br />Robert M.
