VOLUME' SEP~VICES AM_ER. ICA

January23,2002

Mr. Mark. Chappuis
General'Manager
Cabarrus Arena & Events Center
65 Church Street, SE
Concord, NC 28025

Dear Mark:

'Following-up on our discussions regarding the impact of alcohol sales on total Food and
Beverage (F&B) revenue, we have taken a sample of four facilities in which-we operate
that represent a range of characteristics in size, demOgraphics and projected. F&B sales as
the Cabarrus Arena; and performed' a comparative' analysis of projected revenue loss if
the facilities were not licensed to serve alcoholic beverages.

Our analysis demonstrates that on average,, approximately forty-six percent (46%) of total.
F&B business is subject to loss as a result of not having a liquor license. In evaluating
total potential lost business, it is also important to be cognizant .of the overall impact of
not having a liquor license as it relates to the facility's ability to book certain types of
events and the inherent risks-of losing full revenue if a!coh~ol is not availablel
Specifically, our experience has shown that not carrying a license to serve alcohol in a
facility can severely impact its ability.to maximize bookings of social events and even
some state sponsored events.

Mark, I hope .this information is helpful as you evaluate your options and the impact each
one poses.

Should .you need additional infOrmation and/or further discussion on the revenue losses'
resulting from not having a liquor license, please do not hesitate to contact me. We look
forward to continuing .our discussions about the opporm, nity to do business with the
Cabarrus Arena.

Sincerely,

Pia Brown
Vice President
Sales,' Convention Centers

cc: George Lancie
Vice President, Convention Centers East

/attachment

201 East Broad Street · P.O, Box 10099 · Spartanbur~ SC 29306
Telephone: 864-598~8679 '.
