Human Resources <br />Cabarrus County <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />TO: <br /> <br />From: <br />DATE: <br /> <br /> Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners <br /> Frank Clifton, County Manager <br />~Don Cummings, Human Resources Director <br /> <br />April 9, 2002 <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Employee Health Insurance Renewal for FY 2002 - 2003 <br /> <br />Request the Board of Commissioners approve contract renewal with CIGNA to provide fully insured <br />HMO and Point of Service (.POS) programs for employee health insurance coverage for FY 2002 - <br />2003. The premium rates reflect a 17.1% increase over FY 2001 - 2002. <br /> <br />Cabarrus County's cost of providing paid health insurance for 628 employees will increase <br />approximately $309,000 for a projected total annual cost of $2,110,000. Employee paid premiums <br />for spouse, children, or family coverage will also increase by approximately 17.1%. The rates for the <br />different coverage categories are listed on the attached chart. <br /> <br />The major changes impacting county emplOyees are: <br /> <br />· An increase in employee copayment for Specialty Physician office visits from $20 to $30. <br />· An increase in employee copayment for Inpatient Hospital / Outpatient Facility Services from <br /> $250 / $125 to $500 / $250. <br />· The maximum out-of-pocket expense changes from unlimited to $2000 individual and $4000 <br /> family. <br /> <br />If additional information is needed, please let me know. <br /> <br /> <br />
