One of the topics of <br />conversation will be the Fishertown Community. <br /> <br />Ai~POII~S TO BO~,P, DS A/qD ~OMMITTEE~ <br /> <br />Trustees for the Fireman's Relief Fu~d <br /> <br /> U~ON MOTION of Commissioner Privette, seconded by Commissioner Suggs <br />and unanimously carried, the Board appointed the following persons as <br />Fireman's Relief Fund Trustees as recommended by their respective fire <br />departments for tez~ns of. two years ending January 31, 2004: Allen - Edwin C. <br />Phillips; Cold Water - Job_n A Walker; Flowes Store - Debbie Kiser; <br />Georgeville - Aubrey Bathes; Harrisburg - Richard Mauney; Jackson Park - <br />Archie Coble; Midland - Michael Tucker; Mt. Mitchell - Earl Wise; Mt. <br />Pleasant - Scott Barringer; Northeast Cabarrus - Sylvia Coley; Odell - Keith <br />Clark; and Rimer - Randy Buckwell. <br /> <br /> Chairman Freeman commented on the recent death of Firefighter Josh <br />Barley from injuries suffered while fighting a house fire. Commissioner <br />Privette proposed, and Board members concurred, for the Board to consider a <br />Resolution in tribute to Josh Ea~ley at its April meeting. <br /> <br />Nursin~ Home Connnunit~ Advisox~ Co~nitte~ <br /> <br /> ~ON MOTION of Vice Chairman Carruth, seconded by Commissioner Fennel <br />and unanimously carried, the Board appointed Ms. Monica Jackson to the <br />Nursing Home Community Advisory Committee for an initial term of one year <br />ending March 31, 2003. <br /> <br />I1TFOI~ PUBLIC COI~S <br /> <br /> At 9:25 p.m., Chairman Freeman opened the meeting for Informal Public <br />Comments. <br /> <br /> Mr. Michael Helms complained that the County's garnishment of his <br />checking account for delinquent taxes had frozen his entire· account and <br />placed a burden on his family. He also objected to the Envision Cabarrus <br />project, food tax and incentive grant to Pillowtex and supported the recent <br />reduction in employees at the Department of Social Services. <br /> <br /> Mr. Rick Starnes spoke in support of the Expo project. As a former <br />promoter, he stated it would be an ex~ellent facility that Will make money <br />for the taxpayers of the county. <br /> <br /> Mr. Thomas Hill thanked the Board members for their service. He listed <br />concerns associated with funding for the F~o, the sewer needs in the <br />Fishertown community, the incentive grant agreement with Pillowtex, and the <br />payment of a man from Florida for the Envision Cabarrus project. He commented <br />on the use of taxes and stated the need for all citizens to work together as <br />a community and to make governmen~ as small as possible: <br /> <br /> Mr. John Cox, CEO of the Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce, spoke <br />in support of the Expo Center and the Bnvision Cabarrus project. He stated <br />in his opinion Doth projects will benefit the citizens of Cabarrus County and <br />directly impact the County's future. <br /> <br /> <br />
