ICASAf flUS COUNTYI
NOSTH CAROLINA

TO:

FROM:

Property Owner

Jonathan Marshall, Special Commissioner
CabarrUs County Planning Services Director

DATE: May 7, 2002

RE:

.Public Info.rmation Meeting

. As part of the State initiative to create a seamless, digital, map database, the
joint Cabarrus-Mecklenburg Boundary team has defined the. County line
between the Counties.

The first description of the line was recordedin the respective Register of Deeds
Offices in 1794. Starting with that description, using historical deeds, plats,
and GIS (geographic information system) technology, the team worked its way
forward through time to re-construct the county line between Cabarrus and
Mecklenburg County. ...

The team, comprised of planners, mappers, 'and GIS Analysts from both
Counties, examined each parcel of land touched by the county line. To ensure
consistency, the team used a hierarchy of rules, which included:

1. The 1794 county line was be used as a starting point
2. No landowner should be moved from one county to the other
3. The line should be reasonably straight from point to point
4. Property split by the line will be taxed proportionately

Based on those criteria, !?our propert!? has not been affected bi? the county line.

A Public Infogmation Meeting will be held on
Wednesday, May 15t~, 2002 at the
University City Library, located at 301 East WT Harris Blxrd
between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM

The team will be present to answer questions. ·

· Planning Services Department
P.O.
