Natural Resource Development and Protection <br />The South Central Piedmont Resource Conservation and Development Area is home to <br />approximately 1.58 million people. Because of this large number, tremendous demands are placed <br />on the natural resources. These demands have and will continue to generate problems in <br />managing and protection the area's natural resources. Problems that.haye beel~ recognized <br />include: · C~Ot~t/~ ~~e~ <br /> <br />· Air pollution <br />· .Better watershed planning and treatment <br />· Protection of municipal water supply watersheds <br />· Water quality improvement <br />· Stream stabilization <br />· Erosion and sediment control <br />· Wildlife protection and habitat improvement <br />· Better forest management and utilization <br />· Animal waste management <br />· Prime farmland preservation <br /> <br />Community Services Problems <br />The South Central Piedmont Resource Conservation and Development Area is expected to <br />continue to experience rapid growth in the future. This expected growth will require additional <br />community services in order to meet the needs of the citizens residing in the area. The council <br />recognizes that many of these needs are beyond the capability or scope of the RC&D program. <br />However, we have tried to identify areas of concern that the council could potentially address. <br />Some of these opportunities are listed below and are included in the councils goals and objectives: <br /> <br /> · Lack of rapid transit <br /> · Storm water management o <br /> · Recreation and tourism <br /> · Better sewage treatment <br /> · Water and sewer expansion <br /> · Solid waste disposal <br /> · Effective recycling programs <br /> · GIS system maps <br /> · Utility authority <br /> · Better Road connection to 1-85 <br /> · Better Land Use Planning <br /> <br />Area Plan - Resource Conservation and Utilization Plan <br />(Note: the Area Plan must address each 9fthe following: <br /> · Land Conservation Element l, <br /> · Water Management Element ~ <br /> · Community Development Element <br /> · Land Management Element) t/ <br /> <br />Purpose for Creation - Mission and Vision <br /> <br /> <br />
