Ordinance No. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE RENEWING THE SOLID WASTE COLLECTION AND DISPOSAL <br /> FRANCHISE AGREEMENT <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, BFI Waste Services of North America, Inc. holds a franchise to provide <br />residential solid waste collection in the unincorporated areas of Cabarms County and to provide <br />solid waste disposal services for the City of Kannapolis, the Towns of Mt. Pleasant and <br />Harrisburg and the unincorporated areas of Cabarrus County; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the conditions of the franchise agreement have been changed by mutual <br />consent to include the following: <br /> <br />BFI will waive tip fees charged to Cabarrus County on municipal solid waste collected at <br />County-operated convenience center(s) delivered by the County to the BFI landfill at <br />Lowes Motor Speedway. <br /> <br />Rental fees will be waived on BFI-owned containers used for municipal solid waste <br />located at the Cabarms County landfill. <br /> <br />BFI will place containers for the collection of cardboard at the Cabarms County Human <br />Services Center (1303 S. Cannon Blvd., Kannapolis ) and at the County recycling center <br />located near Angelo's Fish House (1534 Trinity Church Rd., Concord) free of charge. <br />Cardboard will collected at those sites by BFI and will be transported to a recycling <br />center free of charge. <br /> <br />BFI will provide curbside recycling collection for a fee (to be determined at a later date) <br />in residential subdivisions in the unincorporated areas of the county upon request. Fees <br />will be paid by subscribers. <br /> <br />5. BFI will provide recycling collection at County-owned facilities free of charge; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the franchise agreement expires January 1, 2003 and may be renewed for <br />one successive period of five years. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Board of Commissioners of the County of <br />Cabarms that the Solid Waste Collection and Disposal Franchise Agreement with BFI Waste <br />Services of North America, Inc. is renewed for five years, including the change in conditions <br />herein described, from January 1, 2003 through December 31, 2007. <br /> <br /> <br />
