ICAOAImUSCOUHTYi <br /> NORTH ClOOLI#A <br /> <br />CABARRUS COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> <br /> PROCLAMATION HONORING <br /> <br /> LARA CABANISS <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Lara Cabaniss has been employed with the Kannapolis City Schools for six years, <br />beginning as a teacher at Fred L. Wilson Elementary School and since July 1998 serving as the School's <br />Curriculum Coordinator; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, at a special ceremony at Fred L. Wilson on October 8, 2002, State School <br />Superintendent Mike Ward announced that Lara Cabaniss had been selected to receive the prestigious <br />Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award, which Teacher Magazine calls the "Oscar of <br />Teaching"; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Lara Cabaniss is an outstanding educator whose knowledge and hard work were <br />instrumental in the dramatic improvements in student achievement at Fred L. Wilson in recent years; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Mrs. Cabaniss works not only with the children and the teachers at school but <br />extends her service out in the community, operating a bookmobile from her car during the summer for the <br />students in the neighborhoods served by Fred L. Wilson and spending a week at Christmas serving relief <br />workers at Ground Zero; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Lara Cabaniss is a dedicated and talented educator who epitomizes the highest <br />principles and values expected'of an educator, justly earning the respect, admiration and high regard of <br />students, colleagues and the entire community. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners hereby commends Lara <br />Cabaniss on receiving the prestigious Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award, and expresses <br />on behalf of the citizens of Cabarrus County, sincere appreciation and gratitude for her dedication and <br />commitment to providing a quality education for our children. <br /> <br />This the 21 st day of October, 2002. <br /> <br />Robert M.
