[CABARRUS COU i

NOOTH CAROLINA

Roger Allen Smith

Roger began his work as an Electrical Inspector with Cabarms County on June 05, 1983.
At that time the Inspections Department consisted of five inspectors and one secretary.
During the next fifteen years Roger perfoimed electrical inspections throughout the
county on all newly constructed homes and businesses. As the county began to
experience a tremendous amount of growth during this time, the amount of inspections
also increased and three additional electrical inspectors had to be hired. In July of 1998,
after the Board of Commissioners approved an internal reorganization of the inspections
division Roger was promoted to the position of Lead Electrical Inspector. As a result of
this promotion, Roger was not only responsible for performing field inspections but was
also responsible for the daily supervision of three other electrical inspectors.

While working for Cabarrus County Roger proved to be an excellent inspector,
supervisor, and mediator between the public and the inspections office. He has helped to
create a permitting and filing system that effectively maintains the records concerning
electrical inspections that is required by the North Carolina Department of Insurance and
the National Electrical Code. Roger was always willing to help others within the
department and in the field. His knowledge of the National Electrical Code enabled him
to assist his fellow workers, electrical contractors, and the general public whenever they
had problems interpreting the code.

On December 27, 2000 Roger retired from his position with Cabarrus County to spend
time with his family. I am sure that he will now have plenty of time to catch up on some
hunting and fishing but especially playing his guitar. Roger was not only an excellent
employee but a wonderful friend too. He will be greatly missed by our department and
the construction community.

Office of Development Services

P.O, Box 707 · Concord, NC 28026-0707 · Zoning: (704) 788-8137 · Building inspection: (704) 788-8128
www. oo.cab.nc.us
