MEMORANDUM

i!T[

TO:
FROM:
DATE:
SUB]ECl:
Cc:

Board of Commissioners

· ¢4
Jonathan B. Marshall/Planning Director

January 12, 2001

American Institute of Certified Planners

Frank W. Clifton/County Manager

Kelly Sifford and Rodger Lentz have both passed the examination to become
members of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP). The'
examination is the final requirement to become a member of the Institute, and
may not be taken until a planner has met additional requirements for education
and experience.

AICP certification is an important step in the planning profession. It assures the
public and professionals in land use that the individual has the requisite
education, training and experience to perform their job at the highest level. As
such, AICP Certiliication has 'been integrated in the job description of all higher
level planning positions with Cabarrus County.

Another aspect of AICP certification is the strict Code of Ethics and Professional
Conduct that accompanies that certification. All planners should adhere to this
Code, but for AICP members, adherence is required. Any deviation from this
Code may be reviewed by the AICP board and suspension or expulsion may
result.

I am very proud of Kelly and Rodger for achieving this professional milestone
and wish to honor them before the Commission for their achievement.

Planning Services Division
