SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE ........... Tm FERGLISON GROLIP ~-----~-'~ Although our list of successes is expansive after nearly 20 years of representing public agencies, we have listed below only a few specific examples. · Transportation The Ferguson Group has been extremely successful in securing federal transportation dollars. For example, six cities,in the I-5 Corridor of Los Angeles and Orange Counties, California, fought to prevent a freeway widening project that would have condemned comrnereial and industrial areas along the freeway. However, capacity enhancement was necessary to alleviate congestion. The Ferguson Group helped organize the I-5 Joint Powers Authority (J-PA) and establish a partnership between the local govermnents, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). We also designed the strategy to obtain federal support for improvements to the freeway, while maintaining local involvement in decision-making related to the method of expansion. To date, the J'PA has been slated for nearly $50 million in federal funding for studies, intelligent transportation systems, intermodal centers and rail grade improvements. As a result of the federal attention to the I-5 Project, the local metropolitan planning organization (iV[PO) and Caltrans have included the project in local and state transportation improvement plans and the state has awarded the I-5 J-PA over $200 million in formula funding for the project. For King County, in the last four years, we aggressively advocated for transPortation funding that has resulted in $6.35 million for park and ride lot expansions at key transit centers; $2.5 million for pedestrian bridges; $3.5 million for bhses and fare care coordination; $19.8 million for an interchange; and $750,000 for a water taxi. For City of Charlotte/Mecklenburg County we have secured $8 million in federal funds needed to acquire fight-of-way and begin design of a five-corridor transit system that incorporates busways and light-raiL The Ferguson Group has also secured numerous earmarks in the annual transportation appropriations bill for intelligent transportation systems. The City of Huntington Beach secured a $1 million grant to install fiber optic cable and cameras to monitor arterial traffic flow accessing the freeway.' The City of Inglewood has received $4 million to improve traffic management along major arterials surrounding an entertainment and sports complex. · Urban/Economic Development
