THE INDEPENDENT TRIBUNE <br /> <br /> June 7, 2001 <br /> <br />AMENDMENT TO <br />ORGINAL APPLICATION <br />PUBLIC HEARING <br /> <br />Cabarrus County will conduct a public hearing to amend the original <br />application by removing BOG, Inc. from the application. BOG, Inc. had <br />agreed to locate at $30,000,000 facility beside Corning and employ'30 <br />persons with at least 60% being-from low and moderate income families. <br />This public hearing will be held at 6:30 PM before the close-out hearing. <br /> <br />CLOSE OUT <br />PUBLIC HEARING <br /> <br />Cabarrus County will conduct a Public Hearing on Monday, June 18, <br />2001 at 6:30 PM in the Commissioners Chambers on the Second floor <br />of the Governmental Center, 65 Church Street SE, Concord, NC. The <br />purpose of this hearing is to report to the public the results of the <br />CDBG Economic Development granf (98-E-0483) the Corning/BOC <br />water project for the purpose of dosing out the project. <br />Cabarrns County and the City of Concord partnered ia the installation <br />of 33,000 lineal feet of 16 inch water line pump station to provide a <br />second source of water to the Coming site in MJdlan.d off Highway <br />601. Corning agreed to construct a $600,000,000.00 fiber optic man- <br />ufacturing plant and hire 100 production workers with at least 60%. of <br />these workers to be from !ow and moderate income families. BOC, <br />Inc. agreed to install a $30,000,000.00 industrial gas manufacturing <br />and distribution plant beside Coming and employ 30 persons with at <br />least 60% being from low and moderate income families. Corning has <br />constructed its fiber optic manufacturing plant spending more than <br />first anticipated and hired more than 400 workers with at least 60% <br />being from low.and moderate income families. BOG has not installed <br />the plant they anticipated constructing. The grant awarded Cabar/'us <br />Coun/y was $1,000,000.00 and the project was expected to cost <br />$3,000,000.00. The final costs were $685,408.14 grant funds, $657, <br />345.55 paid out by the City of Concord, and $1,398,878.87 paid by <br />Cabarrns County for a project total of $2,741,632.56. <br />All interested citizens are urged to attend. <br /> <br /> <br />
